A classic finish to any train, many of these cars were also built as private cars for wealthy clients. The models are based on plan #3959.
Although compartments and drawing rooms were becoming increasingly popular with travelers in the 1920s, Pullman (and most railroads) still favored open section cars, which carried more passengers and generated more revenue per trip. As a result, the 10-1-2 became one of Pullman's most common heavyweight cars, equipped with 10 open sections, two compartments and a single drawing room. Based on cars built to Pullman Plan #3585, Lot #4728 in late 1923, this model is typical of cars modernized with air conditioning in the 1930s, some of which remained in operation into the 1960s.
While Pullman favored open section cars, travelers came to prefer private accommodations. This led to the 6-3 all-room sleeper, with six compartments and three drawing rooms. These cars were easily identified by the odd window arrangements on each side; one had 12 single windows spaced some distance apart, the other had paired windows placed close together. Popular on long-distance trains, 203 of the cars were built as Pullman Plan #3523 (cars from Lot #6152/6341 are the prototype for this model) from 1923-26. Air conditioning was added in the early 30s and some were still in service into the 1960s.
Introduced in the mid-1920s as Pullman plan #3958, 14-section cars were popular on many trains for their less expensive sleeping accommodations. As a result, many were rebuilt and modernized, remaining in service for years. These new models have all the features of other Walthers HO Scale heavyweights and come decorated in the same color schemes, so it's easy to assemble a matched consist
