For generations of travelers, Union Station was the magical gateway to and from the world. Here is where the journeys of the finest trains on the line started and ended. Where travelers rushed to make their connections. And thousands of commuters began and ended their workday.

From suburban station to busy city terminal, the platform was the first and last stop for every passenger. Tall walkways allowed passengers fast and easy access to and from trains. The hard surface made it easy to wheel baggage and mail carts into place, as well as supplies for the diner or other cars. And since no one liked being too wet or warm, a roof provided some protection from the elements.

As an alternate to costly train sheds, American railroads tried three distinct styles of station platforms including the Busch, Umbrella and Butterfly types. Of these, the Butterfly (so named because of its up-swept, wing-shaped roof) was cheaper to build and eliminated the maintenance headaches of other designs. Providing plenty of ventilation for engine exhaust and just enough protection from the sun and rain for passengers, Butterfly platforms gained widespread popularity early in the 20th century.

Now you can build a detailed terminal scene for your passenger service with this all-new kit. Based on the almost universal Butterfly design, platforms of this type can be found at stations in big cities and outlying suburbs where they have served passengers for many years.

The kit includes parts for four complete platforms and features a modular design so longer platforms can easily be built to fit your space. To get passengers to and from trains safely, a pair of optional underground "subway" stair ways are included to add realistic detail without a lot of work. "Wooden" walkway crossings between tracks, four platform benches, detailed "steel" columns, platform signboards and realistic details are all included.

Ideal for use with any steam-, transition- or diesel-era layout, the platforms look great alongside Union Station ( sold separately) and similar station facilities.

Where space was limited in larger towns and cities, two or more railroads would often combine their resources to build and operate major terminal stations. Monuments to the power and success of railroading, they also projected the spirit of the community they served and the promise of excellent service for anyone who traveled by train.

• LOCOMOTIVE SPECIAL CONDITIONS: This unit has an odometer and an hour meter on it for return both the odometer and the hour meter must read zero.
• For MTH items If the unit is run then normal factory warranty would apply and MTH would directly handle any warranty issues.
• On New power units Factory Warrantees apply and are handled directly by the manufacturer under the terms of their warranty agreement.

SHIPPING: SHIPPING is done Monday thru Friday normally within 1 day of receiving payment. Sometime a delay does occur due to weather or the commercial carriers we use to deliver the packages. All customers receive an email notifying they of the scheduled delivery date at the time of shipping along with the tracking number of the package.
