Narrow Front Row Crop Tractors
First of an Era
Blue base color flatcar w/ JD Markings on Tractor
This is an 86 ft Athearn Flatcar in Blue lettered for the GN Great Northern. The car is Blue lettered in White for the Great Northern. This is a NEW unit fresh out of the box in MINT Condition. The flatcar has the highly detailed sides, top and undercarriage of the Athearn line. The air tank, air blocks, air cylinders are all in place. All of the steps, couplers and associated parts are in place, as well as, the brake stanchion and wheel.
The load is a pair of JOHN DEERE 4010 Series Tractors. The 4010 was the first of the multiple cylinder engine tractors. No more of the 2-cylinders for Deere. The tractors are the narrow front version with the open operator's station.
The Tractors are new and fresh off the line. The Rear Wheels have been removed and the Tractor is cabled (Chained) down to the car. The Tractor and Load are NOT GLUED on they are cabled (Chained) in place and can be removed. The cabling is in a bronze color and is run through the deck. It resembles yellow oxide chain as the car goes down the rails.
The Tractor and load are tensioned securely with this system and stay right in place. The car can be lifted by the load and it remains securely fastened to the deck. The Tractor is correctly cabled with an Eight-point tie-down system with two from the front axle Pedestal going aft and the two from the pedestal going forward are crossed to center the load. The two cabled (Chained) from the rear axle housings going both fore and aft. The Tractor sits on real wood blocking under the front axle and real wood blocking on each side of the rear axle housing to keep it off the deck for unloading by a forklift. The cable (Chains) are secured around the front axle bolster and the spindles rest on the wood blocking. The cable (Chains) are secured around each rear axle and the axle housing rests on wood platform blocking. The real wood blocking adds a nice contrast to the lighter deck. The car is balanced and runs down the rail nice and smooth.
The JOHN DEERE Tractor is nice and DETAILED with rubber ribbed tires on the front in this row crop version. The Standard Long Bar rubber lug tires are on the rear. The detailed operator's platform has the yellow wrap around seat, steering wheel, as well as, the clutch and brake foot pedals. The Tractor has the GREEN wide fenders with the step on the frame. The Tractor has the open operator's platform with black round muffler, Transmission Hydraulic control block and hydraulic lines. The detailed engine, shows the exhaust manifold, air box intake, fuel lines, Injection pump, standard Oil Pan, fuel filters, hydraulic canister Alternator and oil cooler which adds to the realism.
The Rear of the tractor shows the seat base cover. The rear of the cover has the orange Slow Moving Vehicle placard. You also see the PTO Cover Shield and the rigid hitch for towed equipment. With the Wheels removed you see the Extra Heavy Duty rear axle Housings built for the New Higher Horsepower Engine.
The Tractor has the rib style vented radiator screen as well as the detailed side radiator intake screens depicted. The Tractor has the Yellow hood panel inserts which read JOHN DEERE in green on them. It has the short side skirts infront of the operator's platform which read 4010 Diesel on them. It also has the red fuel cap and black radiator cap on top of the hood. The curved hood has the green high air intake on it.
The Tractor features the Standard Narrow Front Pedestal Assembly. This was standard on the early versions. The Front Axle shows the Spindles, and hubs.
The Rear Wheels have been removed to lower the tractor on the flatcar to allow for shipment. The 4010, due to its small size and horsepower came with the standard long bar Rear Tires and Wheel Assemblies which are tensioned down at the rear of the tractor. The Ribbed style Front Wheel Assemblies are tensioned down at the center of the flatcar. The Ribbed Front Tires rest in a wood rack for shipment. The Rear Rubber Lugged Tires and Wheel Assemblies are stacked two high. They rest on real wood blocking to keep them off the deck so a forklift can get under to unload them. The Wheel Assemblies are NOT GLUED but stacked and tensioned down. The cable (Chains) form a criss-cross pattern between the lugs and keep them centered and securely fastened. The Ribbed style Front Rubber Tire and Wheel Assemblies are also stacked four wide in a real wood rack. The Assemblies are racked, NOT GLUED together and are tensioned down to the deck. The cable (Chains) run through the center of the rims and keep them centered and secured.
The car has two (2) Parts Crates mounted in the center of the deck and are cabled (Chained) down to the deck. The Crates are real wood and attached to a pallet. The pallet keeps the crates off the deck and allows for a forklift to slide under it for unloading. The Crates are covered with a white weatherwrap tucked in at the corners. The four legged landing Deere is in black against a green background on the top and each end of the crate.
For those Deere fans out there we do have the full line available. Starting with the Waterloo Boy's, through the 2-Cylinders, the Next Generations, up to the Present day large tracked versions. They are being listed in a random order.
