Oxide base color flatcar w/ JD Markings on Tractor
This is a 50 ft Athearn Flatcar in oxide lettered for the EJ&E. This is a NEW unit fresh out of the box in MINT Condition. The flatcar has the highly detailed sides, top and undercarriage of the Athearn line. The air tank, air blocks, air cylinders, main frame beams are all in place. All of the steps, couplers and associated parts are in place, as well as, the brake stanchion and wheel.
The car has a laser etched wood deck
The load is a JOHN DEERE 4020 Series Tractor. The 4020 was the FIRST of the John Deere row crop tractor with the hydro front wheel drive. Giving you a row crop tractor that had 4 wheels driving.. This is the also the last of the After-Market Cabs. The next generation, the 30 series came out with the new wrap around SOUNDGARD Cabs that we still see today. These were the first factory offered John Deere manufactured cabs. So here we have the first of the four wheeled row crop, as well as, the LAST of the old tin non-John Deere cabs. This marks the end of the Tractor era. The 30 series would usher in the automotive style, user friendly operators's compartment.
The Tractor is new and fresh off the line. The Rear Wheels have been removed and the Tractor is cabled (Chained) down to the car. The Tractor and Load are NOT GLUED on they are cabled (Chained) in place and can be removed. The cabling is in a bronze color and is run through the stake pockets. It resembles yellow oxide chain as the car goes down the rails.
The Tractor and load are tensioned securely with this system and stay right in place. The car can be lifted by the load and it remains securely fastened to the deck. The Tractor is correctly cabled with an Eight-point tiedown system with two from the front axle Bolster going both fore and aft and two cabled (Chained) from the rear axle housings going both fore and aft. The Tractor sits on real wood blocking under the front axle and real wood blocking on each side of the rear axle housing to keep it off the deck for unloading by a forklift. The cable (Chains) are secured around the front axle bolster and the spindles rest on the wood blocking. The cable (Chains) are secured around each rear axle housing which rests on wood platform blocking. The real wood blocking adds a nice contrast to the lighter deck. The car is balanced and runs down the rail nice and smooth.
The JOHN DEERE Tractor is nice and DETAILED with rubber lugged tires on the front and , The extra wide rubber lug tires on the rear. The Lugged front tires are on the Front Wheel Drive Models. The detailed cab interior has the yellow wrap around seat, steering wheel, as well as, the clutch and brake foot pedals. The Tractor has the GREEN Hiniker After-Market Cab with the YELLOW TOP and YELLOW Windows and Doors. The Cab has the six sided wedge styledesign, and the lower pentagonal equipment window which the real Hiniker Cabs had. The Tractor has the Large fenders with black oval muffler, Green tall air intake, Transmission Hydraulic control block and hydraulic lines. The detailed engine, shows the exhaust manifold, air box oversized intake, fuel lines, Injection pump, Extra Large Oil Pan for the Turbo-Charged Engine, Alternator and cooler which adds to the realism.
The Rear of the tractor shows the Hiniker Cab with the Hiniker Diamond insignia and the orange Slow Moving Vehicle placard. The back of the tractor also shows the hydraulic servo connection blocks to plug in the towed equipment. You also see the PTO Cover Shield and the rigid hitch for towed equipment. With the Wheels removed you see the Extra Heavy Duty rear axle Housings built for the New Higher Horsepower Engine.
The Tractor has the rib style vented radiator screen as well as the detailed side radiator intake screens depicted. The Tractor has the Yellow hood panel inserts which read JOHN DEERE in green on them. It has the short side skirts infront of the cab and the hydraulic filter canister below the enty door. It also has the red fuel cap and black radiator cap on top of the hood.
The Tractor features the Extra Heavy Front Pivot and Bolster Assembly. This was also unique to the 4020 with the Front Wheel Drive units. The Front Axle shows the Spindles, Steering Arms and the adjustable tie rods. The front axle also pivots. This Tractor was also the FIRST John Deere row crop available with factory supplied Front Wheel Drive.
The Rear Wheels have been removed to lower the tractor on the flatcar to allow for shipment. The 4020, due to its added power came with the wide Rear Wheel Assemblies which are tensioned down at the rear of the tractor. The Lugged Front Wheel Assemblies are tensioned down at the front of the flatcar. The Rear Rubber Lugged Tires and Wheel Assemblies are stacked two high. They rest on real wood blocking to keep them off the deck so a forklift can get under to unload them. There id onr Set of Tires with yellow centers mounted at the rear of the car. The Wheel Assemblies are NOT GLUED but stacked and tensioned down. The cable (Chains) form a criss-cross pattern between the lugs and keep them centered and securely fastened. The Lugged Front Rubber Tire and Wheel Assemblies are also stacked two high. The Front Wheel Assemblies rest on real wood blocking to keep them off the deck for unloading. The Assemblies are stacked, NOT GLUED and tensioned down to the deck. The cable (Chains) form a criss-cross pattern over the center of the assembly to keep them centered and secured.
The car has TWO Parts Crates mounted in front of and behind the tractor and cabled (Chained) down to the deck. The Crates are real wood Crates attached to pallets. The pallet-style crate rests on a real wood pallet skid attached to the wood shipping crate. The pallet keeps the crates off the deck and allows for a forklift to slide under them for unloading. The Crates are each covered with a white weatherwrap tucked in at the corners. The Deere landing deer is in black on a green backgound and reads JOHN DEERE on the tops and each of the ends of the crates.
